sound recording

Please Note

Due to the permanent budget cuts sustained by Instructional Development, we currently are not able to staff Sound Recording on anything but an as-needed, full cost recovery basis. Should you have a recording or audio translation project, either for instructional or professional purposes, please contact J. O. Davis <davis@id.ucsb.edu> directly to discuss the parameters of the project and the timeline.  We will need at least TWO WEEKS ADVANCE notice to schedule any recording sessions in the studio.  Use of the studio and a recording engineer will be billed at the rates published on the ID Rates page (available in the left hand menu).

Sound Recording offers a full range of professional analog and digital audio recording and post-production services.

The main studio features an extensive selection of microphones and a Steinway D concert grand piano. The studio is acoustically tunable for a variety of recording needs. The master control room is equipped with a Digidesigns recording controller along with professional digital and analog recorders, Lexicon digital reverb, Pro Tools multi-track hard disk recording and editing system, a MIDI workstation featuring Kurzweil, Korg, Yamaha, Roland, and Oberheim synthesizers, as well as sampling and SMPTE lockup capabilities.

A self-production studio is available to faculty and students who wish to produce classroom related projects such as recording lectures and simple sound tracks for classroom media projects.
